Fair Labor Standards Act of 1938 general records, 1938.

This series consists of general records relating to the Fair Labor Standards Act of 1938. Apparently the state Dept. of Labor acted as a clearinghouse for information, issued the required age certificates to child workers and referred enquires to the U.S. Dept. of Labor. Included are press releases, rules and regulations, forms, and correspondence from the U.S. Dept. of Labor concerning provisions of the act. Also contained is correspondence with Ala. citizens about the act, including requests for more information and reports of possible violations of the law. These records document the interest Ala. workers had in New Deal labor legislation and more importantly describe labor conditions in the state.
